>Sorry, no casting puzzles for you today.

Offers are out on quite a few parts, both major and minor, but I'm not aware of any deals closing besides the ones already announced. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe next week. Who knows? These things can take time.

The auditions for the part of Ser Ilyn Payne are the strangest I've even been witness to. Ser Ilyn has no tongue and no lines, of course, so the actors just have to stand there and look mean & scary, reacting to the dialogue of other characters being read to them by the casting assistants. No words to work with, just their mouth, eyes, facial expressions. Talk about challenging.

I know there are aspiring actors and actresses reading this. You guys have all my empathy. It's a tough, tough profession you've chosen. Good luck to all of you.<

The Sacrilege Poll - Would TDH Richard Make a TBH Hunk as Well?

Could RA play a Tall Blonde Hunk as effectively as his TDH persona?  The following pics have to be characterized as committing a sacrilege of some sort;)  At the very least,  excuse the Madonna roots and keep it in mind that a more attractive blonde shade would be chosen for him.  The entertained possibility of Richard being chosen for a blonde character in GOT's brought on the current speculation...(see poll)

Sue was reminded of RA's role in 'Frozen' - his hair was much lighter than today and of course he was much younger....definitely grew into his face...dorian grey dna??
The following is from an interview he did for Frozen.  His hair strangely looks much lighter than it did in the show.  Lighting??

Geo RR Martin's biography: author of 'Game of Thrones' (starring Sean Bean as Eddard Stark - in early 2011)
George R.R. Martin was born September 20, 1948 in Bayonne, New Jersey. His father was Raymond Collins Martin, a longshoreman, and his mother was Margaret Brady Martin. He has two sisters, Darleen Martin Lapinski and Janet Martin Patten. Martin attended Mary Jane Donohoe School and Marist High School. He began writing very young, selling monster stories to other neighborhood children for pennies, dramatic readings included. Later he became a comic book fan and collector in high school, and began to write fiction for comic fanzines (amateur fan magazines). Martin's first professional sale was made in 1970 at age 21: "The Hero," sold to Galaxy, published in February, 1971 issue. Other sales followed.

In 1970 Martin received a B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, graduating summa cum laude. He went on to complete a M.S. in Journalism in 1971, also from Northwestern.

He wrote part-time throughout the 1970s while working as a VISTA Volunteer, chess director, and teacher. In 1975 he married Gale Burnick. They divorced in 1979, with no children. Martin became a full-time writer in 1979. He was writer-in-residence at Clarke College from 1978-79.

Moving on to Hollywood, Martin signed on as a story editor for Twilight Zone at CBS Television in 1986.

In 1987 Martin became an Executive Story Consultant for Beauty and the Beast at CBS. In 1988 he became a Producer for Beauty and the Beast, then in 1989 moved up to Co-Supervising Producer. He was Executive Producer for Doorways, a pilot which he wrote for Columbia Pictures Television, which was filmed during 1992-93.

Martin's present home is Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is a member of Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America (he was South-Central Regional Director 1977-1979, and Vice President 1996-1998), and of Writers' Guild of America, West.

A Game of Thrones  --  Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens.
Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counterplots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.
Martin's 'Song of Ice & Fire' readers have become so impatient for the upcoming series, they've started to create their own imaginative trailers. Following is by eliart...
Casting poll information:
The following news was found on the Game of Thrones' winter is coming website:
June 28, 2010
A casting call has gone out in the UK through several channels. They are on the look-out for Gendry - Aged 16-20. Working class. Big broad-shouldered blacksmith with thick black hair. Tall and muscular. Quite stubborn and not very sophisticated and quite wary and shy with strangers. He is unaware that he is the bastard son of the King.

The part will feature heavily in later seasons. Number of episodes (Season 1): 2 episodes
Season appearances: Seasons 1-4, maybe more

Didn't Richard already fill a very similar role when he was only a few yrs older than the above required age?  If the age was stretched another 5-7yrs, could he convincingly pass as a 27yr old today?  We already know his dramatic skills can interpret w/charming finesse a shy, unsophisticated laborer...(see poll)

LATEST UPDATE:  There are frequent humorous passages in Geo Martin's 'Game of Thrones', after reading his most recent journal entry, the reason is obvious...

>Quarry Query:  Jun. 25th, 2010 at 12:16 PM
The LARNE TIMES broke the story a "massive castle" being built in an old quarry near Magheramorne for HBO's GAME OF THRONES. The quarry is about forty minutes north of Belfast, near the town of Larne.

I can confirm that, more or less. The set being built at Magheramorne will be our Castle Black. Not actually THAT massive a castle -- much of Castle Black will be created in post with CGI -- but it will come complete with a fully operable winch elevator, David and Dan tell me.

Google tells me that "the gobbinsite at Magheramorne quarry is found as a rare filling of vugs and vesicles." I have no idea what that means, but hey, it sounds like it came straight out of someone's fantasy novel. Gobbins, vugs, and vesicles all in one place. I hope they don't attack the castle. Those gobbins are mean sonsobitches.

Let me caution anyone reading this, however -- please DO NOT go rushing off to visit Magheramorne. Quarries can be dangerous places, and construction sites doubly so. We don't want any fans getting hurt. Besides, why spoil the illusion? Castle Black will be best viewed on screen, in all its glory.

(And no, HBO will not actually be building a 700 foot high wall of ice. We tried, but the cubes kept melting).

Andrew Lincoln's American TV series:
I'll try to be diplomatic with this observation, but it will be difficult.  Earlier today a poster mentioned Andrew Lincoln had accepted a role in an American TV series which piqued my curiosity.  After the first, brief preliminary search, all I can say is -  What was the man thinking??  Is it a matter of 'take the money and run' - that's certainly what it appears to be.

Andrew has definitely lowered the bar for any role Richard might accept in the US.  As long as it doesn't involve a 'walking dead' cast of zombies with greenish-red eyes, we should consider it a plum role and say Well Done! Mr Armitage:)

Lincoln plays a police officer in the series entitled 'The Walking Dead' - described as a zombie thriller.  In other words, exactly the type of show we'll avoid like the plague.  The 10-18yr old crowd will no doubt love it:)  http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/04/06/andrew-lincoln-gets-lead-role-in-the-walking-dead/
The second page of photos looks like an average Halloween night at local taverns.
Andrew does get to wear a cowboy hat and sheriff's badge..maybe that's why he accepted the role...=)
