Re-casting 'A Game of Thrones' :)

[See answer to the following question in comments:  Are you out there Musa? If so, do you know who the following interesting looking characters are in A Game of Thrones? Most importantly, are any of the roles yet to be cast?]

Andrew Lincoln's American TV series:
I'll try to be diplomatic with this observation, but it will be difficult.  Earlier today a poster mentioned Andrew Lincoln had accepted a role in an American TV series which piqued my curiosity.  After the first, brief preliminary search, all I can say is -  What was the man thinking??  Is it a matter of 'take the money and run' - that's certainly what it appears to be.

Andrew has definitely lowered the bar for any role Richard might accept in the US.  As long as it doesn't involve a 'walking dead' cast of zombies with greenish-red eyes, we should consider it a plum role and say Well Done! Mr Armitage:)

Lincoln plays a police officer in the series entitled 'The Walking Dead' - described as a zombie thriller.  In other words, exactly the type of show we'll avoid like the plague.  The 10-18yr old crowd will no doubt love it:)  http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/04/06/andrew-lincoln-gets-lead-role-in-the-walking-dead/
The second page of photos looks like an average Halloween night at local taverns.
Andrew does get to wear a cowboy hat and sheriff's badge..maybe that's why he accepted the role...=)

Hi Again,
:)
I am here, sort of :) The first character you have is Jon Snow, bastard child of Ned Stark (Sean Bean) and he has been cast already. Too bad RA is now too old for Jon Snow, otherwise would be great for the role. I'm not sure of the other two - except the one all in black is from the Nightwatch and the other, I'll have to look up the sigil. There's a blog that has a list of the cast so far with photos, http://lexicopia.blogspot.com/
So other than Bronn, what other character yet to be cast would be good for RA?

After a bit of research the third character you have there is Aegor Rivers, called Bittersteel, bastard son of one of the Targaryen's. Not a big role as far as I can tell :)

Musa, I found two references to actors being cast in Game of Thrones as a result of fans suggestions.

Therefore, may I suggest you go to Geo Martin's 'Journal-not a blog' website and make your RA as Bronn suggestion--along with a couple photos of Guy of Gisborne(if you have them:) My album is filled with some of the best pics of Sir Guy, so let me know if you need a few.

Do you have a second character to suggest besides Bronn? Is there a web page listing the roles yet to be filled? Richard relishes the dark side roles, so no need to limit the suggestions to white knight types.

A link to Martin's site can be found in the post below. His journal entries reflect a very warm & friendly
person.

Don't be too hard on Andrew Lincoln! Don't you think it's about getting work in the US and then making your mark. Besides he has to work, he has a wife and two kids now.

Richard did say in a recent interview that he wouldn't be too proud to take on a role in the US with just six lines. And just think what playing Guy in a kid's programme led to for Richard. He might not have been offered Spooks if he hadn't made a stir in RH.

I believe American shows are filmed at a much faster pace than British ones and don't leave much time for the actors to rehearse or run through their lines and so I'm not altogether sure Richard would enjoy that kind of treadmill work ethic. He seems to like to get to know the character he is portraying inside out and back to front and even takes lots of notes at run throughs and makes suggestions afterwards. I hope if he does get a role in the US it will be a good quality part. It would be a shame to have to mask those beautiful dulcet tones with an American drawl. Does Andrew Lincoln have to talk with an American accent? I'm guessing he does.

I get the feeling Richard is rather looking forward to getting back on stage and getting away from the conveyor belt type of acting for TV. Maybe it will help recharge his batteries? (Now did I say anything about needing a jump start you little minxes!!!!)

Enrich & Sue, Yes, I get the point about Andrew needing to support a family same as any other profession. It's frustrating for his talent to be wasted on a horror series. Many young Americans love to be scared beyond belief, so perhaps it will lead to better roles for him.

Relieved to see you specified an American 'drawl', Sue...since I don't have one. Southerners might not be so understanding;) LOL

In both countries certain dialects could almost be a language other than English. While watching the first 2 eps of SB, hubby didn't need to back-up the DVD until Porter's senior officer(older man wearing a red military cap) made a remark, and then he rewound 3Xs and still could not decipher those words.

Perhaps a cameo appearance in one of our better quality TV series(White Collar, Burn Notice, Damages, upcoming HBO Game of Thrones) would be just what Dr Alec ordered to quickly draw attention to Richard's many charms. Females as always would find themselves marching 'zombie'-like to youtube and start viewing clips from N&S, RH, Spooks, etc.
Musa & I are working on Geo RR Martin(author of A Game of Thrones;) The RR stands for Raymond RICHARD...maybe it's a lucky omen;)

@Sue, I'm just going by the Spooks DVD extras here, but was that series not filmed at breakneck speed, too, with minimal rehearsal time, and actors having to be on their marks, with late script changes, etc.? Being Canadian, I'm just "piggie-in-the-middle" culturally speaking.

But I would hate to see Mr. A in a poor series. Not that he couldn't make something more of it. If only he could be assured of being in one of the very good U.S. productions. Fingers crossed.

Whoops, it appears we just had an earthquake here in Ottawa at approx. 1:45 pm. Just running for the cat, he had already taking off for the lower floor. Now trying to reach my son. Never a dull moment...(I am serious here, it just happened). We are on a fault line.

Update, son fine. Cat fine. I really don't like earthquakes. Apparently,Toronto got it too. Which means N. New York felt it.

Sorry, really going off topic here.

fitzg,

I'm not sure that as Strike Back took 6 months to film 6 episodes, that I'd consider that to be "breakneck speed", but I'm sure as with his character Lucas North in Spooks, Richard was able to discuss at the pre-production stage just where his character was coming from and how he would like him to evolve onscreen, perhaps even adding some suggestions of his own. (I wonder whose idea it was to make John Porter a northerner? Certainly not Chris Ryan).

Ricrar said...

Sue, why do you say Chris Ryan didn't locate John Porter as from the North? After reading your comment, my memory vaguely remembered reading he was born there. First search found his birthplace - 'Chris Ryan was born 1961 in Rowlands Gill, Tyne and Wear - North East England.'

Sue said...

Chris Ryan was born in Newcastle so he is a geordie (as with Richard's character in George Gently). In the book John Porter is supposed to have come from Luton, (a southerner) so why it should have been changed to Yorkshire (a northerner) I'm not sure, whoever is responsible for this move deserves a pat on the back. I love the dry, witty humour of John Porter, none of Richard's characters seem to have had that so far.

See Chris Ryan's website to find out more:

By the way I've discovered that there were two audio books produced of the book Strike Back, one in 2007 (unabridged) and the other in 2008. About time a third was made don't you? With Richard as the narrator of course!

Ricrar said...

Yes, anything that can duplicate RA's fantastic LOTN narration would be high on my 'must have' list.

Have to admit, however, that his Heyer narrations do nothing for me - probably not surprising;) I'm not interested in listening to that sexy voice feigning doddering yet stiff female characters. However, plenty of other RA fans are pleased w/his choice, resulting in a net positive for his general welfare, which is always a good thing.

RiCrAr,

Yes I agree, I'm not finding it difficult to resist buying the "Convenient Marriage" or "Venetia". As good as Richard sounds narrating it I couldn't for the life of me sit and listen to that drivel all night. (Not unless Richard was to whisper the words in my shell like in person of course!)
