The pause that refreshes or painfully long, long Winter months without any RA? Following is what we have to look forward to in April - definitely worth the wait:)
This gorgeous man is John Porter - the newest character added to RA's resume.
The pic was recently posted at the TV network's website. Strike Back, a 6-part series, was mentioned in a recent article.
TV plays it by the book
Broadcasters are taking the safe option by commissioning literary adaptations that guarantee an audience
"In these difficult times there's a little more security in adapting a book than in commissioning an original script," says Liza Marshall...
The rest of the TV industry seems to agree. The next six months sees the small screen looking like a branch of Borders...Sky1 is filming Chris Ryan's SAS thriller Strike Back for transmission next April...
Has anyone else read the book 'Strike Back' by Chris Ryan? If so, we can slice and dice it between now and April. For instance, below is the actress listed as playing the character Lanni, which is really an interesting part to say the least. Does anyone else think the actress looks rather young to be playing that particular part considering her interaction 'in the book' with John Porter? Here she is...

"All my bags are packed, I'm rready to go...."
On my way to Rome....NOT! LOL
I'm leaving today to spend 10 days with my family. First stop my sis and her family, you can see her cute little devils on my blog. The youngest, 3 yrs old, tild me she wanted Sleeping Beauty, a castle and a prince for Christmas. Then for Christmas Eve, when Santa comes to visit here in Sweden, the whole family will be together, and then on Christmas day we will travel further north, about 20 min north of the artic circle, the photo at the top of my blog right now, and I'll be with my family some more. And then back to work on New Years Eve.
I will check in every day. But if I don't comment here: Merry Christmas to All of You and a Happy New Year from Sweden.
And a joyous Christmas to you as well katarina. Enjoy the blessings of being surrounded by family for the holiday. We'll look forward to your return to help us welcome in 2010:)
A few years ago there was a US Christmas TV special whereby we were taken on a tour of Scandanavia and had the pleasure of peeking in on one particular family as they visited a Christmas market with the children, and watched as they were tucked into bed on Christmas Eve. Really felt as though we'd participated in their family festivities. Lovely program, which was repeated every Xmas for quite a few yrs.
Keep warm "20 min north of the arctic circle" brrrrrrr:)...reminds me of a line from The 'Muppets Christmas Carol' when the muppet version of Bob Crachit asks for more pieces of coal for the fire & Mr Scrooge delivers one of my hubby's fav lines "what are these, Mr Crachit?"(touching his vest & jacket)...Bob replies "why, they're clothes sir." Scrooge: "Yes, clothes mr crachit, which when purchased will keep you warm indefinitely while expensive coal burns away"(to that effect) The muppet Crachit and a few mice friends plead "but Mr Scrooge, we're freezing our assets!" :)
Merry Christmas

Latest...
I arrived almost two hour late at Kallax(Luleå) International Airport due to snowstorm. But now I'm safe with my sister and her family. Only three more days till Santa comes knocking at our door.
Take Care.
April???????????????????????????????
: (
Waaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!
Ok, feeling better now. I'm sure 4 months will just fly by. Haven't read the book, and I don't know if i should!
4 lonnnnng cold brrrrr winter months...we'll need to watch all his other dvds for the 20th time.
I enjoyed the first half of the book which moved very quickly (At the start RA probably relished not at all fitting the usual gorgeous profile). Last part bogged down a couple times but was still exciting. That's just me...love the political aspect, baddies getting their due and especially envisioning Richard as the man delivering the justice. *faint*
The storyline involves a lady in distress and another 'lady'(not quite accurate:) named Lanni who participated in another sort of action with John Porter - definitely not belligerent:)
The screenwriters must've enhanced Lanni's part for the series because she was only in one scant(but memorable) scene in the book.

I have to confess, seeing RA in green does something for me.
I can't bear it! I'm getting Strike back from the library. I read on that sky site that it's 3 overlapping narratives. I'm wondering if this means 3 POV with RA's character only 1 of the 3.
Hmmm
Great ragtag! Would you prefer not to comment on the book until you've finished it?...or give your simultaneous reactions? Promise to not spill any beans while you're reading it. I've already had a dress rehearsal - hubby read 'Strike Back' after me and kept making comments as he was reading it. Took every drop of patience for me to keep quiet when he came to a wrong conclusion:)
3 overlapping narratives? hmmmm, very interesting. I'm beginning to wonder if the screenplay will resemble the book in any way whatsoever? Will be fun to dabble in speculation about who the other 2 narrators other than Porter might be?? UNLESS, they're referring to one character diametrically opposite to Porter's profile and of course the highly distressed character in the plot. Those might be the other 2 points of view. Won't say another word on that score until you've finished drooling over the image of Richard with biceps blazing, all hot & sweaty in the desert. Whew!....talking myself into reading Strike Back a second time:) *pant, pant*

Haven't really decided yet. I'm really torn about this book. But i can see why they wanted RA for it.
Why are you torn about it?...is it not your usual type of reading material? It's not mine either BUT imagining Richard as John Porter added a unique dimension to the book.
Chris Ryan's target demographic seems to be the male audience - there's definitely a certain amount of vulgar language, but the story itself is an exciting adventure. It has an exotic setting & topical political commentary. IMO, RA is currently marketing himself more to the male side of the equation - possibly because that's where there's more opportunity to gain new enthusiasts. Afterall, Guy & JT helped him already corner the female market:)

I'm torn about whether to finish reading the book. I don't know if i want to know how it ends before i see it play out on screen, if you know what i mean? It's kinda like a spoiler. :S
I'm sure he saves the day, and the writers will make some changes, but I'd like something left to the imagination.
oooh, I see. Never caught spoiler fever - guess I just don't take fiction that seriously:) Besides, I'll be so busy listening to his throaty voice modulation and peeking at his biceps will probably not even notice the screenwriters changes until the 3rd viewing.
If we could watch 13 eps of RH for 3 yrs in a row, we might be ready to watch & enjoy almost anything--as long as he's in it.
Agree you'll probably find SB more exciting by not knowing how it ends. Was planning to keep my lips zipped on that score anyway:)

I bought the paperback (as a stocking stuffer) for my husband for Christmas! I'm not going to tell him about the movie. Hopefully he'll read the book and want to watch the movie with me later! Evil or clever? You decide! ;)
Clever as a fox!
I don't need to introduce my partner to this one, he enjoys Spooks more than i do now, so will be keen on SB too.
Hahaha phylly3, you're my kinda gal:) I'd suggested 14wks ago that hubby might enjoy watching the updated Robin Hood - he gave it a try and more than once actually said "I really enjoy the acting style of the guy who plays Gisborne". Which almost made me blurt out my Christmas surprise for him - it's Spooks7 dvds - He'll love it!:) Can't wait to see his face when he opens it tomorrow night.
