Great NZ and Hobbit information. Looks like they may film all over, and return to some sites. Someone reported seeing Martin Freeman in London yesterday, so he at least not yet in NZ - but maybe dwarves are?

I don't think it will be long now before they start filming. They can hardly start without the main man (Martin Freeman) can they?

I was wondering whether Richard may have a break from filming The Hobbit around the end of July 2011? Perhaps he will take the opportunity of attending the premiere of Captain America, which is released on the 29th of July apparently. Any chance of a glimpse of Richard looking dashing in his tux, treading that dastardly red carpet, which he hates so much, do you think?Luvverly!!!I do hope that he gets a nomination for something like "best supporting actor" in future awards in either The Hobbit or Captain America, he deserves it. Unfortunately it seems that The National TV Awards have yet again failed to recognise either Spooks or Richard in January 2011.

Yes, didn't one of the dwarves state during a recent interview that they were scheduled for training Jan in NZ?

There were 150 locations for LOTR, so if most of them are used for TH that gives mucho opportunities for locals to snap pix and report sightings. (Know how much you enjoy Spanish--was it a first language or family inheritance? I'm showing off my teeny tiny Spanish vocabulary for you;) Hubby had a couple yrs of those classes while I was simultaneously mutilating French. When I start un,deux, tois, quatre, cinque, six(obviously very rusty) he joins in with uno, dos, tres etc :)

I'm loving the above N&S promotional pics..they flew under my radar until today.

Hey there Sue, your post managed to squeeze past mine earlier today, I was then called immediately away from the 'puter and just noticed your comment:)

As far as RA's role in Capt America, it will be a pleasant surprise if it's large enough to qualify for an award of some sort. My impression was that's it's a minor role, but would be very happy if that's incorrect.

His Thorin role on the other hand appears to be really major. He'd definitely receive wide attention, and be included on short lists for many awards including a best-supporting role oscar.

I think the Dwarves are on the move. Robert Kazinsky, one of the dwarves, just tweeted good bye to home (UK) and on the road to LA. Says he'll miss his dog...

Meant to answer about my Spanish RicRAr - I think you were asking me? Spanish is my mother tongue, but I've lived in the US most of my life :)

Sue, you know I hadn't thought about the Captain America premiere and the Red Carpet in July? You are right!

Ricrar said...

Dwarves on the move to LA, huh! Assumed their training would be in NZ...interesting. Now we need to ID a few sleuths in LA;)

It would be spectacular if RA appeared at the Capt America premiere - still wonder if the Heinz Kruger role will warrant it. If so, it would be delightful.

I'm wondering if part of his CA contract agreement is to guest on talk shows. Both events would make me sit staring at the screen, with the widest cheshire cat grin ever on my face:D

I think they may be flying to NZ via Los Angeles. I was thinking of this story from John Rhys-Davies during the LOTR days. I've read other stories of the other UK cast members meeting for the first time in LA on the way to NZ when they were first cast:

But I think you may be right as well, a PR stop, or some meetings with the studios, Warner Bros? Could be...a US talk show would be a dream, yes indeed!

Perhaps costume fittings for the dwarves in LA?

We watched the first ep of Sharpe's Rifles tonight. The color is really lovely--very vibrant. I'm curious to identify where it might've been filmed. Looked very much like Ireland for most of the production - will check the booklet - their shooting locations might be mentioned.

Of course, there was one female in the cast who happened to have eyes for young Lieutenant Sharpe. Perhaps you've seen the ep. They were searching for a Rothchilde to borrow enough funds to pay the soldiers. A group of Spanish rebels, who the woman commanded, happened upon Sharpe's brigade.

The latter escorted them to a village where the goal was to raise a significant tattered banner so the people would rise up against French invaders. Sound familiar?

The Spanish woman had been raped years before by French soldiers(amused how they're always the evildoers in Sharpe's world) - as a result she was not quite as receptive to his advances as he'd hoped. Ever the gentleman he was patient, and lo & behold by the end of the ep she was definitely more compliant. DH said Sharpe was merely performing a humanitarian service by helping her get over her emotional trauma:D

Said to hubby "she's the first of a long line of conquests to come for Richard Sharpe." We have 14 more 2hr episodes to go:) Really enjoyed the first.

I know most of the early Sharpe episodes were filmed in the Ukraine, not long after the fall of the Soviet Union, and some scenes in Portugal, like the church scene with Sharpe and Teresa. Later episodes were filmed in Turkey.
Glad you liked Sharpe. One of my favorite series :)

Ricrar said...

Yes, that's the ep, Musa - Teresa was her name. DH has read the entire Sharpe series and enjoyed the vids whenever possible on BBC/A or PBS.

However, neither one of us had seen the earlies eps. We couldn't believe how much younger Sean and Daragh looked. I'm about to post pics of them in the early eps and then more recent ones. If DH thought Sean looked young last night he won't believe the transformation from then to Eddard Stark in April. IMO, Sean is probably one of RA's acting idols - the latter seems to be following in the older thespian's career choices. Classic: JT(Bean in Clarissa); Military: JP(Bean as Sharpe); Tolkien: starring as Thorin in TH (Bean starred in LOTR)

Will you be watching Downton Abbey tonight at 9pm on PBS? Just noticed it will also be available for viewing at their website from Jan 10 - Feb 22.
Looking forward to seeing Brendan Coyle in something other than N&S.

Yes, a number of similarities between RA and SB. I think casting people especially may see them that way, both Northerners, both very handsome, a certain masculine presence that's difficult to define, but you know when you see it,beautiful deep voice...many similarities. Though as fan of both I believe there are also very interesting differences, and maybe we'll see that develop in RA's career.

I WILL be watching Downton Abbey!

I just have to add my A.D.D. riddled two cents in here, regarding that Santander ad... look at the size of those LEGOS!!! Wicked!! My son would go absolutely bonkers for them.

You may now return to your regularly scheduled star-gazing...

Ricrar said...

LOL..not ADD riddled at all Laura..we always enjoy hearing your 2cents on any topic.

The legos fascination makes it clear which stage of womanhood you're currently engrossed in. Is it the toys underfeet, fingerpainted masterpieces hanging on refrig door development level;)

Did you have time to watch Downton Abbey last night on PBS? If not, I'll post the website link above and you can enjoy when your legos masterbuilder is asleep;)

*spoiler alert: don't look at this comment if you're planning to read Game of Thrones:)

Musa, Sean is always very complimentary about grrm's Westeros creation. Isn't it ashame his appearance in the HBO special will be so limited. Wondering if they'll include flashbacks of him in later series - hope so. In that way, perhaps his role will be expanded.

Laura said...

Yep... I'm hip-deep in Legos. Over Christmas Break, we even went to a tiny little version of LegoLand, outside of Chicago. My son was on Cloud 9, and I was right there with him... honestly, I don't know who is worse about the Legos... him or me. Me, probably, since I've directed his attention toward the "Kingdoms" sets, and my characters always seem to end up dressed and asking to be called "Giz"...

Didn't see 'Downtown Abbey' last night... I rarely get a chance to sit down and watch anything during primetime these days, it's right at bedtime. That's why I like Netflix so much! I just saw the promo picture for it, though... That's McGonagal standing there!

*dressed IN BLACK!!! I meant "dressed in black"!!
