Well, I studied these closely, and then some, because I kept on being distracted by naughty thoughts. Then I clicked on the link and was overwhelmed even more. GQ men really can't compare and the pics in jeans are even more luscious! He has this effect while fully dressed and I still can't for the life of me figure out why! *Heart thuds explosively!*

He's not "Metroman", fortunately. One tired of that image pretty quickly.

I'm not keen on posed studio pics (arm seductively behind the head, and all that), but it is part of the baggage of acting, and projecting the actor into positions of more choice and influence on roles. And Mr. Armitage does pull it off with commendable dignity.

Interesting comments Enrich2 & Judith :)
The behind the head, bicep bulging pic surprised me as well, but then remembered it's not the photo that was chosen from that particular shoot for heavy distribution prior to SB. Was that RA's decision?...we'll probably never find out, but knowing his determined avoidance of the 'heart-throb' label leads me to believe that might be the case.

Perhaps he couldn't resist showing off the results of all the exhausting physical activity required to get that much delicious muscle development, however ultimately decided not to take that route. The photographer must've suggested using the hand in all sorts of ways - I especially love the one where Richard's hand reaches toward the camera, as if he's trying to touch his fans...hahaha, we wish;) Was tempted to try to place a female hand in his, BUT sadly that requires someone with skills beyond my pay grade. Maybe TTN will give it a go--she could use her own hand.

Why, in the first place, would this large collection of Richard pics show up on a Russian RA forum?
Is there a thriving black market for that sort of thing in their free-market-challenged, state-controlled economy?

That last is an interesting and teasing question. Why Russia? Do we suspect Mafia involvement? (present Spooks obsession showing).

judith, in one of RA's reent interviews he mentioned again throwing hula hoops at Russian performers in the circus. Did he use that personal experience in the Spooks8 ep involving his former Russian interrogator. Being aware of his tendency to use the smallest detail in order to further nuance a character, seems we're safe to assume he did.

Very likely. Olivier once said he "worked from the outside in". Which is most visible in his Richard III. Similar use of detail/costume, with Mr. Armitage. Details, to feel the way into the character. "Detailed" actor? Whatever it takes....

I find it hugely interesting that Richard feels compelled, in almost every interview, to explain why he'd ever agree to assume the role of an SAS operative. Sounds to my foreign ears as though those particular individuals are painted w/a propaganda-ladened liberal brush to seem like 'cardboard cut-outs' of human beings. In fact, my impression of RA's explanations of the Porter character lead me to believe he has a much more positive opinion of those men than he had prior to working on SB. Believe some masculine instincts & traits came to the surface that had been somewhat suppressed in his personality. Or is he simply trying to continue to marinate in the JP character, in case this wk's SB is such a huge hit that a demand for series 2 will be triggered?
We can only hope for the latter...pretty please God;)

I wonder if Richard is trying not so much to justify playing someone from the SAS, but rather playing in what might appear to be a very macho, boys and their toys, hackneyed type of war drama which glorifies violence for kicks. He was also at pains to explain that, though Guy did a lot of violent things in RH, the violence was portrayed in a non-figurative manner (especially as this was aimed at a younger audience). I think he might be genuinely concerned about mindless violence. He seems a gentle person and has said that part of what attracts him to acting is portraying personalities that are far from his own.

Of course he might have had preconceived ideas about SAS-blokes for all I know, but taking on the role meant that he was willing to "walk in their shoes" and learn. Kudos to him.
