I can't quite fathom what the actress, Layla, is on about! I'd have thought her more daft if her character didn't want to get reaquainted with Lucas, either that or dead from the neck up (or should that be down!)

I think perhaps she is taking our comments much too seriously and doesn't realise most of our comments are pretty tongue in cheek.

I don't think Lucas North's new love interest will be anything like Sarah. As an actress (note not the character) she was a bit wooden and not really all that interesting as a character either, or perhaps that had something to do with her interpretation of the character. Anyhow it looks like we will be getting to find out what really makes Lucas North tick and the back story to why and how he joined MI5. Something makes me wonder whether Richard's character hasn't pinched someone elses's identity, hence how he managed to just "vanish" out of his true love's life. I don't think Lucas will turn out to be a double agent that's for sure, we've been through all that in series 7/8. No I think it will be more complicated and intriguing than that!

She did not actually say that. That was OML's translation of what she might have meant.

Anon,

I think you may be right there! I've just relistened to the interview given by Laila Rouass, and as I thought, she was wary about giving too much away about the storyline of Spooks, because of Spooks fans (not RA fans) as it is such a cult series. I'm assuming that this is the radio interview and not some new interview I've not heard about?

Apparently in the interview she says she is the ex-girlfriend of Lucas North from university days which is/was a passionate relationship and they have some "loose ends" to tie up.

As I said above it sounds intriguing but RiCrAr, I must admit, if there was a wooden spoon award for stirring the pot then I'm afraid you'd be more than eligible to enter.

If Laila Rouass was ever to say that she was worried about RA fans because of her character's relationship with Lucas North onscreen getting "reaquainted" I'd say "fill yer boots girl!" cos I ain't bovvered in the least, just envious!

Sue,

Thx for listening to the radio interview...we're about to leave for a family birthday celebration & I've not had time to do the same.

Based on the quotes below, I'd not been of the impression that the actress was seriously worried, rather that she was treading gingerly in her remarks.

As far as your stirring the pot comment, if it wasn't for sincere questions asked with hopes of informed feedback, the internet would be a very boring place indeed.

Thx again, Sue, for your opinions & taking the time to listen to her exact words - if it wasn't for party preparations I'd have done so myself by now.

If this is based on the radio interview LR has done (I'm not aware of another that has circulated in the RA and Spooks world?) it would never have crossed my mind that she might be worried about RA's fan's reaction. I don't think RA's fans have anything against his character's love interests (why should they, don't we all hope for a love story) but are disappointed if a love interest is badly written or acted.

Hi there,

Yes - a couple quotes from Laila were posted below, which generated curiosity - however, RL prevented me from hearing the radio interview.

Finally accessed the BBC's Asian Network today and have just spent 10min listening to a recent Laila interview. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to discover it's not the right one. They focused entirely on her appearance on a celebrity dance show...kept expecting the interviewer to ask about Spooks at any time, but it ended without mention of her role in Spooks 10.

Have you listened to the interview? If so, what are your impressions of Rouass's comments? Did she refer to his fans in any way?

As far as RA's characters past love interests, there's only one that comes to mind who almost never receives a negative comment - that's Margaret. Happily sister Isabella Gisborne wasn't a romance - she's well treated.

The others, especially Marian & Sarah, have received very intense criticism. Of course, it's the characters not the actresses who are the targets of the slings & arrows. That's probably a result of strong emotional investment in RA's dramatic vehicles, which no doubt is one of the reasons we're spoiled for choices as his career continues to flourish.

Correction: should be 'her appearance in Spooks 9' - not 10.

In the interview posted on RichardArmitageNet she talks about her role in Spooks and her character relation to his character, but does not refer to Richard Armitage's fans at all.

Sincere thanks for the information - apparently it's been much ado about nothing:) I usually try to listen/read everything asap but this time RL prevented it.

Hopefully we'll receive some news on the Spooks9 start date soon. Can't wait - it feels as though SB aired much longer than 3mos ago. Must be developing a more powerful addiction;)...obviously need more frequent fixes. haha

Thanks again for the feedback.

Geraldine form the VoD doesn't get negative comments :P.
JP&Danni's relationship (could it be called that?) wasn't much cheered for eihter.

I agree with Anon about being dissapointed 'if a love interest is badly written or acted' not that we don't want love story for RA's character.
Also agree on the negative comments are mostly aimed at the character not the actress. Although with Sarah at the beginning fans might have started bashing GOR, afterwards it was directed to the character and how the story was written, IMO.

OML :)

That's true, OML, I'd forgotten about Geraldine. She & Margaret appear to be beyond criticism...taking the cloth & living within the narrow lifestyle restrictions afforded Victorian females might have something to do w/their revered status.

What about criticism of RA characters themselves? During my early days as an RA follower(today that sounds like a word from the modern Twitterish language:) I was surprised how many fans did handstands over Guy without mentioning his short-comings *cough*(trying to be diplomatic;) - those were the pre-redemption days prior to RH3.

Apparently 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' can even be applied to deceased fictional characters; because compared to John Mulligan the prince of black leather seemed angelic. Saint Guy..haha

At one of the comment boxes below, we exchanged a few posts re Richard's pre-series RH3 remarks. He seemed, IMO, to want not to spoil enjoyment of the upcoming series while simultaneously trying to somewhat 'lighten the blow' for Guy's admirers. One of his comments was to the effect "Guy deserves to get it in the neck" - that definitely triggered a warning signal in my mind.

Cab his more recent "Lucas is not all that he seemed" message be filed under that same interview category?

Noo! I remember Richard saying that about Guy and so this 'last' message could be a warning, at least he has stopped saying him wanting Lucas to go decapitated :S

Guy shortcomings? What are you talking about? He is an angel, you said so yourself ;) :P
People weren't in 'denial' it was more that by 2nd half of S1 he was showing he could be good/he wasn't just evil like the Sheriff and that was more important that hs worngdoings without denying them, IMO.

OML :)

I moved the last few comments up out of the blog basement to the Aug 31 post above. Still wondering if pre-Spooks9 interviews will give us a clue whether or not our fav spy survives:O I'd wager RA will make some subtle remark IF Lucas will be going into permanent deep cover:(
