Just received a reply to a tweet to the Westeros(Game of Thrones) twitter site.  My tweet to them indicated the cast wouldn't be perfect until Richard Armitage is in it and requesting that they see what they can do...pleasssse:)

Unbelievably, just received this answer from them:

westerosorg@armitageblogger Armitage fans should set their sights to next season and the major role of Stannis Baratheon. :) 24 minutes ago via HootSuite in reply to armitageblogger

Some research on Stannis Baratheon...

>Stannis Baratheon: Middle son of Lord Steffon Baratheon and master of ships on his older brother King Robert Baratheon's small council.

During Robert's Rebellion, Stannis held his brother Robert's seat, Storm's End, for over a year against a siege commanded by Lords Mace Tyrell and Paxter Redwyne. After the war, Robert ordered him to take the Targaryen stronghold of Dragonstone and root out his enemies. He expected to be granted Storm's End when his service was done, and was not pleased to be made Lord of Dragonstone instead. He was also given a place on Robert's small council. Stannis joined Jon Arryn in an investigation that determined that Robert had not actually fathered Cersei's children. When Lord Jon was murdered, Stannis fled to Dragonstone and began gathering his strength.

Physical Description: He is broad-shouldered and sinewy with leathery skin and a pinched, narrow face. He has only a fringe of black hair remaining around his head and a close-cropped beard covering a square jaw. He has dark blue eyes.

[Ricrar comment: 'leathery' skin - more like wears leather like a second skin:)  I Doubt Stannis will wear leather...never know...the costume designer might be one of us..HA!  How to make half bald sexy?...if anyone can do it it's Richard, without even trying....Meet Stannis Baratheon with & without hair...who else wants to wager RA would play the role half bald?...his long-time dream come true:)  If he wears the crown most of the time, it won't really matter....although he might look funny in bed. LOL There are
women who would like the idea...HA!

O.K., so he's not as handsome as GoG, but you just know once Richard began breathing life into him he'd suddenly look & sound lightyears better.  We'd no doubt start to think of Stannis as a complicated fascinating character.  Description says 'broad shoulders, square jaw & blue eyes'..check,check,check.
Stannis Baratheon can be seen half way through the following...

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Richard as Stannis! Major role indeed for several seasons , though we'll have to wait for Season 2. (I hope he's Stannis with hair!) I'm going to Twitter right now and check it out. Dare we hope....I don't want to start celebrating quite yet!
I have to say I don't know Aiden Gillen's work, but he looks like a perfect Littlefinger :)

Stannis is the one I'd added hair to BUT oooh the character just became so much more attractive. WOOHOO!!

Our dream did come true, Musa. Wonder if Geo Martin was talking to him before our collaboration at his blog, or if it was in the works prior to that. Let's give ourselves the credit until we know better.
HIGH FIVE! Now, we can start to envision Richard in Westeros.

One thing for certain...I'll whiz through the novels from now on...they've suddenly become unbelievably interesting.

This celebration goes on for weeks to come...it feels like serendipity, doesn' it. Have to check Twitter to see if there's a reply to my 2nd tweet asking if it's certain or specualtion. However, wouldn't be surprised if they don't answer - maybe there are lose ends to be tied;)

PARTY!! PARTY!! Where's the champagne & balloons & fireworks!!!

Champagne all around !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Richard as a sexy Stannis Baratheon.

Tomorrow the real celebrating begins, Musa. They'd never indicate on Twitter he had the role if it wasn't a sure thing. YAY!!

This is exciting!!

Amazing that the producers of this show have really listened to the fans in terms of casting! I wish we had an official announcement though. Anyone have any contact with Richard's agents? - LOL
Here's a quote from Storm of Swords on what Stannis (Richard!) is wearing in one scene: "They found Stannis Baratheon standing alone at the edge of the Wall...He was dressed in the same black breeches, tunic, and boots that a brother of the Night's Watch might wear. Only his cloak set him apart; a heavy golden cloak trimmed in black fur and pinned with a brooch in the shape of a flaming heart."

Hopefully it will be formally announced soon. Does this mean I have to break down and get cable?

This is great research! How did you come about GOT in the first place?

Ladies, it is difficult to believe an official Game of Thrones twitter site would mention we should look to the role of Stannis Baratheon for Richard in Season 2, without something definite to back their comment - but apparently that's exactly what happened.

See the latest post for the details.

Best case scenario - maybe the fuss caught the attention of someone with influence, who agrees Richard would enhance the cast as Stannis or some other character.

My reply to their recent post was to express disappointment, but also an indication that it was a good thing I'd not already subscribed to HBO because of the pre-emptive RA news.

We will subscribe eventually, but it won't hurt to give the impression that including RA in the cast would result in numerous new subscribers.

Musa, do you feel another mention at Geo Martin's blog, specifically suggesting the Stannis role, might be warranted at this time?...or not?
All opinions on the thought are welcome, ladies?

Good question...GRRM seems to be catching up on his casting posts. I think if they announce who is cast as Renly Baratheon soon, I think that would be a very good time to mention RA as Stannis :)

Ricrar said...

Musa, grrm's comment box was rather slow yesterday, so I did leave a brief post. Quickly received a reply from one of the two administrators of the huge westerosorg website agreeing again that RA would be perfect for Stannis Baratheon or Bronn(adding the first is a much meatier role).

Apparently that person frequently communicates w/grrm, so this is all good. The seed has been planted...hopefully it will take hold & sprout between now & season 2;)

The same person mentioned today on Twitter that none of the remaining roles for season1 compare to the heftier character, Stannis. As the king's brother, Richard would be a major player for more than one season.

Wonderful RicrAr! Such good news. I know the producers of the show post once in a while on the Westeros forum, and seem to be paying attention to the fans in casting the show. You are right that Stannis is a lead role, and Bronn is not. We would just have to wait a bit more to see him in Season 2.
