Art-house commodities after their stylish 2014 debut Goodnight Mommy (read review), co-directors Veronika Franz (wife of Ulrich Seidl) and Severin Fialascored their English language debut with The Lodge, a co-production between the UK’s Hammer Films and FilmNation Entertainment with distribution rights secured by Sony Pictures. In a similar vein to their previous film (which is set for its own English remake from Matt Sobel of Take Me to the River), filming took place in early 2018 in Montreal shooting in 35mm with Greek cinematographer Thimios Bakatakis (The Killing of a Sacred Deer) and featuring a cast including Riley Keough, Richard Armitage (The Hobbit), Jaeden Lieberher (It: Chapter One), and Lia McHugh.

On his blog, Castlevania's writer made the following comment..
"The animators have knocked it out of the park, Trevor Morris has produced a wonderful score, and the actors have not only surprised and amazed me but also made me sound ten times better than I actually am.  This obviously includes our core cast of Richard Armitage, Alejandra Reynoso, James Callis and Graham McTavish.

I'm the sole writer on the show, but I'm also the co-producer, so I'm in all the voice recording sessions with our brilliant casting and voice director Meredith Layne, working with the actors.  (And occasionally rewriting lines on the fly when they don't sound good as written -- that's a whole craft thing I should get into sometime.)  I have learned many things about writing from working with my actors. Also, that after an hour or so of being made to swear constantly, something in Richard Armitage's brain breaks and he starts ad-libbing new additional swears. Also, that I really like working with actors."

It's interesting to observe new RA fans who have just finished his 'Wanderlust' narration. They remind me of those new wellwishers years ago who had just finished watching the North and South mini-series. I referred to it then (and believe these more recent fans are reacting in a very similar way) as the "Thornton Effect":D
