Dulwich eh?....have known a couple dull witches;)  It's probably a section of the vast metropolis of London.  Off to find out on GoogleMaps.

Yes...it's south of the Thames.  If you're interested, enlarge Claridge's (ahhh, memories) map twice by hitting - in upper left corner.  Dulwich in the London borough of Southwark will then be visible.  Nancy Drew would be so proud of me:)

Found a gold mine of interesting historical facts about the area.  Most startling and awe inspiring for a history buff is the fact Dulwich provided the foot bridge Romans used when entering London.  Whoa!!!  Anyone with a historical bent would love living in the area.  The following website includes photos from 1900.  The text accompanying the photo below referred to it as in need of repairs.  Not sure if it was considered a fixer upper at that time or today.  It's not difficult to envision a dedicated DIY guy hammering away at this vintage home, is it...
UPDATE: Actually, the above house is quite historical.  Apparently restoration is planned. Find the interesting story here...

Another piece of trivia found at the above website.  Many prisons were located in Southwark borough around 1900 including one called 'The Clink'.  HA!  Today that term is often used in the US when referring to prison.

Richard is practically on home turf as he lives in East Dulwich. Nice to know that Lucas is still alive and well, then.

Hey there Enrich. Thanks for that info...I remember reading he owns a home in the SE of London. Are we good detectives or what? Ms Marple, etc are so proud;)

One article last year mentioned RA's birthplace, which looks so charming & bucolic - now I can take a peek at his current environment. A curious cat has nothing on me. An on-line visit provides a virtual trip without the expense. Although, family members are getting anxious to finally take the long threatened visit to No England. Probably will get more specific during this summer's family vacation in Aug.

Sounds as tho' Richard today had the luxury of rolling out of bed onto the Spooks set.

We could always use the new Google street here in England to have a mosey around Dulwich!

Sue, where have you been recently? - didn't let RL interfere w/your RA interests, did you?;)

"mosey around Dulwich" - now why would we want to do that? hahaha How is it pronounced? The American eye sees dull witch, but knowing common usage realities - Maybe Da'-witch or Du-itch' or possibly one syllable - D'wich?

What's the population of Dulwich?...it could be a long ramble. Learned something else about the area that seemed ironic - one of the communities of Southwark was hdqtrs for the leather industry about 1900. At the above website, there are photos of an old nunnery and of course a pub called 'The Old Nun' or something to that effect. He can't seem to keep his distance from associations with nuns:) Perchance DNA strands linked to genealogical descriptions of the surname Armitage actually referring originally to the location of a hermitage(monk's abode).

Did RA ever actually state he had a vintage home that needed restoration TLC? A craftsman with artistic instincts would naturally gravitate to a house with some historical ties.

The pronunciation of Dulwich is Dull Itch as thought the w isn't there. It's quite a nice little area, becoming gentrified as so much of South London after the Docklands development and the influx of City types. London actually was originally just villages which gradually merged so the different areas of the city have their own distinct feel.

Thanks enrich, so it similar to the way we pronounce Greenwich = gren itch - it appears Dulwich is in the general area of Greenwich.

Could Dulwich be called a bedroom community? - serving that purpose for mostly those employed in London. The area we live in here could be described as a 'bedroom community'. Many people would rather drive an hour to and from work rather than live in congested areas. Plenty of greenery, wildlife scampering about - every workday morning the long line of vehicles start their journey in several different directions to more urban destinations.

I wouldn't describe Dulwich as a bedroom community, but it's certainly probably more upmarket than most parts of South London. Perhaps leafy suburbs? Yes, it's quite close to Greenwich.

Greenwich (we also pronounce it as you do), is really extremely charming. My favourite area south of the river. It has lovely well-preserved old buildings, a lovely park in which kings once hunted, a great deal of naval history and charming shops and restaurants.
