SPOOKS:
Helen James Productions is working for NBC Universal and Kudos Film and TV producing DVD bonus features for the ninth series of the critically acclaimed, Spooks (BBC1).

A dark secret unleashes the ultimate betrayal in this new series. Sophia Myles (Underworld, Doctor Who), Iain Glen (The Blue Room, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider), Simon Russell Beale (Much Ado About Nothing, Uncle Vanya), Laila Rouass (Primeval, Footballers Wives) and Max Brown (Mistresses, Tudors)join the hit spy drama. Their characters will shake things up and give cause for concern as Section D is left wondering who can really be trusted. Friendships will be tested and the depth of deceit will lead to an unprecedented game of cat and mouse for the Spooks.

Sarah Branist, BBC Executive Producer, said: "We are very proud to introduce an extraordinary number of exciting new characters to this new series. The new additions will really ruffle some feathers but, as intrigue and betrayal is at the heart of the new storylines, we don't want to give too much away at this stage."

HJP plans to go on set and film the DVD Bonus Features in June. The ninth series is due to be broadcast on BBC1 this Autumn 2010.

This just gets spookier by the minute. I hope that Lucas is not going to be thrust into some deep dark place again, at least not without someone he can trust for company. Hasn't he been through enough already?

Enrich2, can Lucas North realistically survive such a dark, mysterious plot? Keep telling myself the writers couldn't be foolish enough to snuff out the character that has extended the long-running series' life for the past THREE yrs?
Tell me that's a fact....getting truly concerned about our fav hunk of 'spy candy':)

RiCrAr, finally seem to have got Google sorted out; constantly having to re-register my account. No idea why. Section D has suspicions about my loyalties?

I really do hope that there will be a series 10 of Spooks. But budgets and, from what I've seen of S8 (not good), might mean the end of not only Lucas, but more. That would be a very great shame.

Please someone - cheer me up!

@RiCrAr and fitzg, have you stopped to think that this might be Richard's express wish? He has said in a recent interview that he gives out the signal that he's constantly busy which he attributed to why it might be that he was not being offered work in the US. Now he might deliberately be clearing his diary so that he has no time-consuming commitments when he tries his luck there later this year. Andrew Lincoln has just landed a part in an American serie which is probably why he was killed off in SB. Perhaps he had some advice to offer Richard.

I think it may well be up to the scriptwriters who gets the chop, not Richard. They usually get through a high turnover of characters to keep the series fresh. I don't think we can expect a series 10, but who knows it all depends on the ratings. The BBC do seem to be investing in a lot of new drama series, probably to replace ones they intend to drop. I notice that Hermione Norris has got a role in one new drama starting in the autumn over in England.

I believe if Richard was offered a good role over here in blighty (with emphasis on the "good") he'd take it up and postpone his trip to LA (unless he had something definitely on offer over there). A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush after all!

Enrich and Sue, yes, I think budgets, writing and the need of actors to just keep acting all play into the Next Big Thing for Mr. A. One does have to eat, no matter what.

And RA seems to be clear-sighted about roles and career development, as well (I think/hope, selecting very good advice.

As a bit of an Anglophile Canadian, I am equally impressed by U.S. TV at its best. And if that is the direction, for a first-rate actor to try, then he must, at some point, go for it.

(As though we can offer expert guidence :) -just off-screen comments...:))
