Strike Back 2 review from LA Times(excerpts)--[Ricrar comment: the review is written by a female(hence her love affair with the word bromance) and she makes a couple snide political remarks that ID her as the usual biased lib-journalist type that habitually writes for the LA Times]:
--"Strike Back" is, at its heart, a buddy movie, a simmering life-or-death bromance between its two male leads: the upright and gorgeously clenched Sgt. Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester), who is British, and the morally cavalier Damien Scott (Sullivan Stapleton), who is American.
--Latif has kidnapped John Porter (Richard Armitage) — who was the star of the first season of "Strike Back," which appeared on Sky TV in the U.K. — and Section 20, now headed by Col. Eleanor Grant (Amanda Mealing) wants him back. Stonebridge, nostrils flaring with distaste, has his doubts but while extricating Scott, fisticuffs with local thugs ensue, and love, in the form of tough-guy admiration, takes root.
--As directed by Dan Percival (one and two) and Bill Eagles (three and four), "Strike Back" unfolds quickly and confidently with brilliantly choreographed fight sequences and the exotic locales. But nothing trumps the friendship of the two male leads. Clear of eye and strong of jaw, Winchester is Prince Charming handsome and Stapleton manages to make Scott appear sloppy and dissolute despite the rock-hard abs, the impressive (and oft naked) glutes.
They each deliver their requisite smart aleck one-liners with the same muscular ease with which they handle automatic weaponry and women's bodies, the cinematic love children of James Bond and Rambo. Action series combines the violence of ‘24’ With humor of ‘Lethal Weapon’

It was a far cry from the time in 2007 when he played Edmund to Ian McKellen’s King Lear at a production of Shakespeare’s tragedy at the BAM’s famed Harvey Theater, but the Montana-born actor adjusted immediately upon meeting the gregarious Stapleton.
“Sully and I met each other at a screen test in London. I really liked him then. We then met up with each other in Capetown. We had a natural banter. Sully’s very much a lad. Out of [our physical] training, these characters developed. Stonebridge has given his life to this company. In comes Damien Scott: He’s a womanizer and a layabout but still gets the job done.”
Winchester was especially relieved that he didn’t have to do any nude scenes. Since Scott beds many of the women who cross his path (or tries to), the Australia-born Stapleton is naked through a good portion of the first episode. In one hilarious scene, he has to relieve a Pakistani terrorist of his firearm while completely starkers.
As for the nudity, he says, “I knew there was bound to be sex, but I didn’t know it was going to be pegged on me. I didn’t think I was going to do all of it.”
There’s more to “Strike Back” than the camaraderie between the two male leads. Section 20 is headed by Col. Eleanor Grant, a cool and controlled woman who favors the Peter Pan haircuts popularized by Morena Baccarin on the defunct sci-fi series “V.” Actress Amanda Mealing had to chop off all of her hair and undergo her own rigorous training. There were some injuries.
“I did work out with the SBS (Special Boat Service) commander. We were boxing. He had a routine and he went off it and I punched him. I dislocated my shoulder,” she says. “He didn’t flinch. These guys are hardcore.”
As the first original series in Cinemax’s launch, “Strike Back” hopes to capture the excitement of 1980s action movie franchises such as “Lethal Weapon” and “Die Hard.” Kary Antholis, President of HBO Miniseries, says that “Strike Back” was the ideal choice for the relaunch of the premium cable network for subscribers because the series blends so well with its most popular movies.
“We looked at high-octane, combat-oriented movies — the “Transporter” movies, the Tarantino movies, “X Men” — and thought that this could be a great and cost-effective way to show a high-action, mini-movie in every episode,” he says.

All of the above brought to mind a conversation we had about the social networks.
Yesterday while walking around our fav lake, hubby and I started to discuss the differences between FB and Twitter. He only participates at Facebook, and gave his opinion of it in a nutshell with the words “it’s shallow.”
I told him about one of the first tweets I’d ever read as a new member of twitter: “on Facebook you try hard to impress friends and family, while on Twitter you tell the unvarnished truth to strangers.” Then went on to give my opinion that Twitter is also more informative and educational as well (or more correctly has the potential to be the latter)
Of course, it all depends on who you choose to follow whether or not you’ll benefit from that social network. In my case, I’ve tried to include people who not only represent my interest in RA, but also other personal penchants, hobbies. One of my primary interests has always been history and historic buildings.
Was very pleased today to find a person on Twitter whose business analyzes the paints and papers in historic buildings. When what to my wondering eyes should appear but “Benjamin Franklin’s House” in London. That discovery led to the list of bookmarks above. Wm Craven’s nephew inherited his title and properties - he and Franklin were contemporaries. The Craven family is one of those granted a royal charter by Chas II which resulted in founding of the colony of Carolina - it later split into North & South.
Interested in how the designer who RA wore to LA premiere might dress you, OR whose designs you might want to emulate in future additions to your wardrobe? Which style would you be most likely to wear?..
My ol' twitter pal(& Musa's), Cardinal Wolsey(Sam Neill), has a blog for his winery. Be prepared to read posts about the animals on his grounds. For instance, they own chickens and each one is named after a film star:) There's a list of names and alongside Meg Ryan's name is says "busy making a chick flick"
Sue mentioned noticing Philip Winchester in Camelot(Leontes) and then casually made a reference to a certain bum, which prompted the need for the following bum runoff, so to speak:)

It's hilarious - Peeder Jigson's latest has RA(mighty fine lookalike:) saying he plans to spend his hiatus looking in the mirror...hahaha...No need to do it RA -- Leave gazing at your image to the experts, who are your legion of fans. The video asks cast and crew members(all impostors:) what they plan to do on hiatus.
After uploading to youtube RA’s reading of the miners’ poem (see post below), Musa mentioned the Bevin Boys. I’d never heard of them before, so as usual, curiosity had it’s way with me..
