Why nibble a few crumbs when a delectable feast of words is available...

When I saw our poll question regarding's RA religious views I remembered this interview from back in January, 2010.

"The same man who was voted most desirable man in BBC drama is also the man who treated his online fans to a quotation from Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the Christian Scientists.

'To live and let live, without clamour for distinction or recognition; to wait on divine love; to write truth first on the tablet of one's own heart - this is the sanity and perfection of living.'

Quite a spiritual man, our Mr Armitage on the quiet. We were right to think he was a perfect gentleman. Not just a great looking man, but a good one too. "

Sadly I would rather try to make Guy more human and probably end broken hearted for my troubles!

judith,
Ever since the scene(series7) when Lucas explained to the boy that his father was a Methodist minister, I've wondered now & then what Richard's feelings might be on the subject. Especially since I'm well aware Europe is very secular..more so than the US.

Although certain political factions here think they're brilliantly tres chic to ridicule the believers. IMO, it's the fervent atheists who are more strident, less tolerant in their non-belief than those w/differing degrees of faith from tolerantly tepid(me) to very warm(DH).

I've been full circle with the meaning of life dilemma. As a teen was certain my religious upbringing was absolutely medieval, UNTIL I'd gained enough experience in the real world & learned that those, IMO, with some faith seem to make more pleasant company, laugh more - take far more enjoyment in all aspects of life.

We're all put to the test on the subject, when we learn we'll be parents - that's when the rubber does hit the road. For the 1st couple yrs mulled the pros & cons...moved back & forth in discussions w/DH(firm believer) as to exactly which tactic we should take. How could we meld our differing belief systems.

We decided our positions were more similar than not, and each should guide our little ones according to our individual instincts. Mine was more open ended - when our son asked for the first time "Who is God?" I told him there are many opinions on that topic but for me God simply means 'good'...that as he grew older he'd understand why it's important to be an honest, kind person.

Of course, I'm beaming w/pride at the fine and successful man he's become. His father can take more than a little credit for that fact:) He's a loving, responsible man - best type example for a boy to emulate. Well.. that's a deep subject..haha Talked more about religion in this one comment than I have all year.

We're off early in the AM for a 12hr drive for some family fun in the NC sun. I'm planning to set the forum on moderated for the week. Will return Aug 14. Hope you have a great one:)
