Sarah's King Lear Quote:Spooks 8 + The Hobbit Publicist Speaks + RA T-shirt Poll #2 + RA & Daniela Interview + THE HOBBIT: Scouting Locations + Capt America's SuperBowl Ad + Robin Hood Interview

Will we finally see pre-filming photos of The Hobbit stars?  Here's a quote from one of the director's assistants:
>Film publicist Melissa Booth confirmed filming would start next month but said the exact date had yet to be set.
The films' stars would soon be arriving in Wellington to launch the production. "It will be for a significant number of the actors. I don't have a date yet, but I am hoping it will be in a couple of weeks' time."<

An Armitage Angel reports that everyone should keep their eyes peeled for the first major Captain America promotion.  It will be one of the golden(extremely expensive) ads aired during this year's Super Bowl game.(will get date asap)
UPDATE: This year's SuperBowl will be played on Feb 6..along with that info also found the announcement of half-time performers, which will be The Black Eyed Peas.  Thought to myself "there has to be an RA fan video using their music" - and indeed there is -- Meet Me Halfway by JulietD001

News also arrived on The Hobbit, in the form of an online report in The Southland Times of NZ.  A photo of Sir Peter Jackson's plane accompanies the article...
Evdiently merchandizing for THE HOBBIT has already begun...see the hobbit stein..besides it's hefty price, it looks way too cumbersome for a wee li'l hobbit to lift..
ATTENTION! ATTENTION! Hobbit poll alert:
This is so very embarrassing - don't understand how it could possibly have happened - Well, you see, I've somehow mixed The Hobbit trolls with the goblins *blush*:) hehe...suddenly remembered that Thorin & Gandalf acquired 'something' at the trolls hideout -- NOT the goblins...mercy me, or as Gollum would say "preciousss me" ;)

RA T-shirt Poll #2: Would you wear a t-shirt/top similar to the following when you go to the theatre to see RA in Captain America and/or The Hobbit?

The Superbowl is Sunday, Feb. 6. Pregame begins tomorrow at 2, I believe. (Ok, I kid. But only a little)

The game really is Feb. 6, and is usually during Prime Time, with kickoff somewhere around 7 or 8 PM, CST.

Go Bears!!

(and now I'll go back and read the rest of today's post!)

oh. heh-heh. probably should have read the NEXT SENTENCE before I went scrolling off to leave a comment... sorry. (blushing)

You're blushing Laura - HA! you've nothing to blush about when compared to my recent poll mistake. I referred to the hobbit goblins when it should've been the trolls---how embarrassing is that;) teehee

It's an adorable story---especially Gollum - he's really a hoot! Peter Johnson's transfer of that character to the screen is especially spot on--hissing sounds, gangly appendages, huge watery eyes. I saw the image first in LOTR, and read the writer's description later. It was really interesting to see how the director brought the unusual creature to life.

Know what you mean about the superbowl pre-game beginning now into Feb 6 -- American men go into ecstasy over the event while I, on the other hand, do not even know the two games competing for those expensive rings. Hmmmm, something US football players have in common with Tolkien's hobbits&dwarves--searching for a special golden ring. That's definitely the only thing they have in common;)

Well, even though the playoffs haven't finished, my team is still in it, shockingly enough. They're up against their Arch Rivals this weekend - Bears vs. Green Bay. I'm afraid I'm as bad as the guys are, this time of the year. I actually petitioned our Scoutmaster to change our Leader's Meeting (held the first Sun of every month) because the SuperBowl is on!

I haven't read the Hobbit... I tried during HS, but couldn't get into it. Some books just don't grab me, you know? Perhaps I'll try the series again. My tastes have changed some since then.

Thanks for the Super Bowl date ladies. Not something I usually watch, but I will this time - all for RA :)

Interesting article about PJ scouting locations for The Hobbit.

RiCrAr,

I remember someone mentioning during the filming of N&S that Richard was seen smoking during a break. I see that you've managed to get a photo of him doing just that, plus having a cuppa. So he is human after all and has his litle foibles. All the same I hope he's managed to kick the awful weed into touch! Somehow watching him during that tender kissing scene in N&S with Daniella doesn't seem quite the same knowing he probably stunk of ciggies. Maybe he carried a few mints with him to sweeten the blow? Not that I'd complain, ciggies or not, if he puckered up to me in a train carriage!

Ricrar said...

haha..Sue, your ciggie reaction reminds me of a story Richard told about an actress who meant to spray breath mint in his mouth but missed and hit his ear. He said as a result, he couldn't hear the director's instructions for that very first rehearsal. Perhaps, at that time, she was avoiding smoker's breath.

RA added it's a common professional practice for actresses to offer their kissing partners the mint remedy. As they say about the manufacture of sausage -- learning behind the scenes details often does not present a pretty picture:)

I do remember Richard stating years ago, when he started to run, that he'd kicked the smoking habit in the process. That's good news in more ways than one - all that smoke has a detrimental effect on vocal cords...would be a tragedy not to get the full effect of those dulcet sounds, wouldn't it;)

PS... love that pic of Gis in this post... looking at the Sheriff with that "what the hell is wrong with you, man?" look on his face. It cracks me up every time.

The photo of RA drinking coffee and smoking behind-the-scenes in N&S - have you ever seen anyone look so elegant and beautiful doing either of those things? There he is casually standing there and he looks so lovely.

Thanks for posting the BBC America interviews - my favorites :)

Ricrar said...

Laura, I've started to think of the pic of Vasey&Guy as RA's very first occasion to deal with a hobbit - although a very nasty one indeed:)

If it's possible to look elegant smoking a coffin nail, Musa, Richard is the man to pull it off - agreed;) Fortunate that he had enough self discipline to kick the habit.

Watching the BBC interview for the first time at youtube, said to myself - Yum! finally an actor worth following. Never dreamed how far the journey would go - from Guy in RH2 all the way to the most expensive movie planned to date. Quite a trip and more to come!

Sue said...

RiCrAr,

I'd not heard about the actress spraying breath mint in his ear. I think Richard should have taken the hint and replaced smoking fags with sucking a packet of mints! I must admit I'm not convinced that Richard has given up the dreadful weed, giving up smoking isn't that easy (so I believe, never having been a smoker). He did seem to enjoy smoking in a scene in the Impressionists didn't he? If he is still addicted (and lets face it, it aint no hanging offence - yet - and it's not exactly on a par with sniffing cocaine) I bet he makes sure he isn't snapped in the act again. Although there's not much point in keeping his body (and boy what a body!) in peak condition (or should that be peek)on the outside and rubbish lungs on the inside is there?

Ricrar said...

Sue, I'm convinced Richard did give up the smoking habit. Mainly because of the quality of his voice. Over the years most smokers' voices are effected by the smoke. They start to sound raspy - RA's is as husky & velvety smooth as ever.

He did afterall have a strong incentive to give them up - the future of his acting career depended on his physical stamina for action roles. Smoking reduces lung capacity, therefore the person can't run, stage fight, or last as long in more personal pursuits. All worthwhile reasons to replace the ciggie habit with healthier activities - like skiing, running, gym sessions, dancing, internet surfing...haha...perhaps not the last;)

Ricrar said...

p.s. I've just recently read the actress story myself. He commented on it during one of his earliest interviews after N&S - believe the link can be found below from earlier this week.

RiCrAr,

I was interested in the interviews you've posted on the website, especially the one about John Standring, which I hadn't seen before (my fave todate). I agree with everything he says about the character and I'm sure that's how Sally Wainwright intended him to be played. I also agree that there is a very tenuous link to Wuthering Heights, especially as the male and female characters have been swapped around. I wish he'd do another character role like John, he was lovely, I just felt like giving him a big hug!

As Richard will turn 40 this year (can you believe that?) I believe that far from diminishing his acting career, it may infact enhance the type of character roles he's offered, ones with more substance and not based on the size of his abs (although a glimpse of his abs wouldn't hurt!)

Me again!

I've just come across the following link on Annette's Richard Armitage online website:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainment/confidential/sully-strikes-while-irons-hot/story-e6frf96x-1225991399728

It's an article about the new lead actor for the 2nd and 3rd series of Strike Back. Looks like our Richard won't be returning to reprise his role as John Porter (although I believe he will be in the 2nd series briefly).

I've not heard of this Australian actor before have you? I think it may be a bit of a risk giving quite an unknown actor the lead. Richard was quite well known to British (and American) audiences which has always got to be a bonus for viewing figures.

Ricrar said...

I've never heard of the AU actor either Sue - will be interesting to see the reaction to SB2, won't it.

RA's role in the hobbit appears to remove him from other possibilities as well. During one of his interviews he mentioned that the US show DAMAGES was one of his favorites to watch, and in fact he stated to the reporter "I want to be in it." :) Just read that the satellite-program service DirecTV made a deal to produce 20 new episodes of Damages. Definitely seems as though he must forego what might've been another opportunity. The Thorin decision must've been a difficult one - although the compensation for a role in a $500M budget film might've greatly enabled the process.

Sue said...

RiCrAr,

I think Richard made the right decision accepting the role in the Hobbit. The series Damages is not high profile over here in England.

Mind you it seems that Thorin is going to be "grim-faced", which is a disappointment, but perhaps a few Guy-like scowls won't be so bad (I quite liked them actually).

See the following link:

http://www.thenational.ae/arts-culture/film/casting-the-hobbit

I just hope Richard doesn't have to play a miserable old bugger in the film, I'd much rather see a cheeky grin on his face.

Sue said...

I've just had a peek at what fans are saying about Richard on "The One Ring Forum". See link below:

It seems that he is thought to be too young and skinny for the role! What! He's built like a brick outhouse (and perfectly formed with it), as for being too young, well I'm sure Richard, as he contemplates his 40th birthday this year, will be thrilled with the "too young" comment! I just hope he's not going to be transformed into some kind of grumpy old git!So much for doing a comedy Richard, better luck next time!

Sue, any type of pre-movie discussion raises an actor's profile--makes his name more familiar to the general public. Perhaps it will cause many teens to focus on Thorin, and wonder why anyone would complain about such a great actor and performance. If Richard does wear an 'aging' type beard, they'll no doubt be convinced he is a grumpy ol' dwarf;) That will make him deliriously happy, while we're constantly grumbling to ourselves "what a waste of that face." haha
