Liverpool YES - Richard Armitage IS Heinz Kruger - It's Official Tweets Hobbsy:)

Hobbsy's latest tweet says RA will be filming in Liverpool.
(isn't his expression appropriately sinister enough as Lucas to also be a WWII spy;))

Interesting review w/ following comment about Heinz Kruger..

"We see the loss and desperation that fuels Steve Rogers' decision to undergo the experimental procedure to become America's first super-soldier though several emotional panels. ... On the other side of the fight, we see the devotion Heinz Kruger has to his country through a final letter to his wife back in Germany."

Not exactly a complimentary drawing of the evil (Richard's happy) Kruger (he's about to get a major makeover:)...scroll to bottom of page to see Heinz's friends listed..including Hitler..LOL..

Friday: A kind commenter below provided  a link stating there's a new RA/Kruger? pic.   On the way I somehow managed to wander into a WWII timewarp w/explanations of the origins & history of Captain America & his diabolical enemy, Heinz Kruger.  Never having been a huge comic fan...err,,,well there were a couple  pre-teen yrs when the Archie comic caught my attention --  only because half the characters were teen girls who regularly flirted w/Archie & his friends, while wearing pretty clothes(the girls that is;)...otherwise the comicbook world was meh for me.  That's why learning the historical background for Capt America & Heinz Kruger has been an interesting ramble. Following passage has a reference to our recently discovered fav German spy...

>Captain America's appeal was novel; he was not born with great power, but rather had it bestowed upon him as a gift. The champion of freedom started out as Steve Rogers, a scrawny 4-F rejected by the army and then redeemed by a dose of a "strange seething liquid" that turned him into a strapping specimen of heroic young manhood. It could happen to anyone, even the ordinary reader. [the writer wrote w/tongue in cheek:] And part of the attraction was that Steve Rogers never became excessively gifted; he wasn't invulnerable - he was just tougher and braver and smarter than anyone else.

The secret formula and its inventor were destroyed by saboteurs, [Guess who?;)] and therefore Captain America was the only one of his kind, assigned by the government to disguise himself as a private in the army.<    http://www.superherostuff.com/Biographies/CaptainamericaBiography.html

Spooks Ep 2 Trailer + Capt America - Is the Role Namor the Sub-mariner?.."dark & murky waters"

Meet comic superhero Namor the Sub-mariner...
Never found comics the least bit interesting before tonight...wonder why not???
Description of the character from the following website...
In this snippet from his first cover appearance (Marvel Mystery Comics #4, 1940), Namor's facial features and head shape look fairly normal, with his pointed ears and angular eyebrows the only sign of his exotic heritage… a character better known for a steely-black head of hair.

After a several year hiatus, the Sub-Mariner briefly resurfaced during the mid 1950's...this time with a much less cartoonish cranium and a major league hatred for Commies.

Following this brief return, Namor once again vanished from the newsstands... and wouldn't return until Stan Lee and Jack Kirby reintroduced him in Fantastic Four #4 (1962).

There's twitter talk that Namor the Sub-mariner might be RA's role in Captain America.  Looked around and found http://www.chud.com/articles/articles/22433/1/CAPTAIN-AMERICA039S-INTERNATIONAL-CO-STARS-THE-INVADERS/Page1.html
By Devin Faraci - Published 02/7/2010

Last summer I talked to Marvel Studio's Kevin Feige, and he told me that The Invaders would appear in Captain America. In the original comics The Invaders were a WWII superteam that counted Captain America and Bucky amongst its members. In the movie universe it looks like The Invaders will be a European team that works alongside Cap. The question at the time was would The Invaders just be a cameo or would they have a real part to play in the movie?

Yesterday I talked with The First Avenger: Captain America director Joe Johnston at the press day for The Wolfman, and he revealed to me that The Invaders were going to be a major presence in the film. 'They'll be in the entire second half,' he said.

That's a lot of screen time that Cap will be sharing. Johnston also told me that The Invaders will be six members strong, so if you add Bucky and the Red Skull The First Avenger: Captain America might very well feature nine costumed characters, surely some kind of a record outside of a straight up team franchise like X-Men.

Earlier during the press conference Johnston had said that his Captain America would be played (hopefully) by a newcomer and that he would surrounded by name actors. Could The Invaders be roles for better known actors? The European team is definitely included as a way to sell a movie with Captain America overseas (Feige said as much at Comic Con), so why not throw some name actors in there?

Who will be on The Invaders? Johnston wouldn't say, but here are some possibilities, based on the comics:

Union Jack. I'd more or less bet money on him being on the team. In the comics, Union Jack is an older adventurer who was active in WWI. He had no superpowers but wore a bulletproof outfit and was exceptionally athletic.

European Defense Initiative. It's also possible that the film will go with a concept floated in The Ultimates, the EDI. Although set in the modern day and not in WWII, EDI is made up of heroes from multiple European countries, with characters like Captain Italy, Captain Spain, etc. To me this would be a cheap and easy cop out, though, and if The Invaders are important in the second half of The First Avenger: Captain America, it would make more sense to create full characters for them rather than simple Captain America knock-offs.

Namor, The Sub-Mariner. Incredibly unlikely, but possible. Fox, holder of the Fantastic Four characters, has Namor, but might that just be the Silver Age version? Namor actually first appeared in Marvel Comics #1, in the same issue as the android Human Torch. He was a founding member of The Invaders (which was actually called The All-Winners Squad back in the 40s), so he really belongs on the team. Of course even if Marvel does own the Golden Age version of Namor (which is essentially exactly the same as the Silver Age version), they may not want to confuse matters by using him in The First Avenger: Captain America while he might yet turn up in a rebooted Fantastic Four or his own film.

The blogger, who took the now famous to the RA universe video, said on his website that as of today the public has been banned from the set.  Wondering if 1000 RA followers might've flooded the area after the secret leaked out. hehe Wouldn't be at all surprised if they did...one small item keeping me from doing the same - that deep, dark inconvenience called The Atlantic.

Bit of trivia about the Captain America set.  When I  saw the first 2 pics from the vid, I'd noticed the shop saying "Brooklyn Antiques" and thought to myself - "don't tell me there's a Brooklyn in No England as well??  After seeing all the 1940s classic cars on the Captain America set, it finally dawned on me that those blocks in Manchester are today Brooklyn, NY.  Good luck with that....teehee...I only visit NYC when it's necessary to fly out of JFK.

The classic 40s cars are really cool.  It's the type of vehicle you'll see in this area's 'Cruise Nights'.  The collectors enjoy showing off their hobby in organized parades(cruising around) of the highly prized vehicles.  Afterwards, a good time is had by all at local watering holes and outdoor fun.  Scroll down to see the sedans..

Changed my mind AGAIN:)  Believe it is RA upon magnifying the photo.  It's definitely the longer hair from recent interviews & facial features look similar enough to say Yes.  I sound like my least fav politicians - straddling the issue;) The blurred bum area threw me off the first time...haha

Twitter me this batman...in your opinion, is the following tall, dark-haired man RA?...or is this another case of interested parties stirring up public interest in another project..this time it's 'Captain America'.  I say No, it's not Richard because his posture doesn't seem to be as straight as usual.  What's your opinion? Yes? No? Maybe so...
The video is available on youtube..search for Captain America, Manchester...hmm, admittedly it does look more like RA in the second photo...and he did say within the past wk that he's doing something between now & Christmas that's top secret...

>Published Date: 22 September 2010 - By Andrea Mullaney  -  Spooks, BBC 1

WELL, he had to notice eventually. After all Harry, the top spymaster of Spooks, has been losing cast members, er, agents for eight full series now at a rate of attrition only slightly under that of RAF pilots in 1940. With only a few going into exile, the vast majority have been blown up, shot, tortured, chip- fat fried and otherwise killed in action.

Sooner or later he had to wonder if saving the country from terrorists on a weekly basis, with a staff of only four people at any given time (and this is before the Government's cutbacks), was really worth it.
After all, what thanks do they get? "Ros gave everything for this country," he mused at the sparsely-attended funeral for the latest lost Spook, Hermione Norris' Ros Myers who expired heroically in the last series' finale and has been waiting to be buried ever since. "And just six people came to say goodbye to her." That's certainly one way of looking at it, Harry, as a reflection on how disposable his Spooks have become to an ungrateful nation.

But the other is remembering what an utter pain in the arse Ros Myers was, constantly sneering at everyone as if a bad smell lingered under her nose.

Frankly, heroine or not, I'm amazed as many as six turned up: perhaps, as Sam Goldwyn said about the funeral of Louis B Mayer, they wanted to make sure she was really dead. After all, she had already gone through a fake funeral, when having to go into hiding in a previous series – perhaps most of her acquaintance didn't realise this time was for real?

The point, anyway, was for the usually stalwart Harry to have a crisis of faith on realising that at the rate he's going through employees, he'll be able to retire without ever having to write anyone a reference, though at least fluctuations in the pension fund will never be a problem. As played by Peter Firth, Harry Pearce has become the linchpin of the series, finding a hundred different ways to grimace in resolution or anger. As with many aspects of Spooks, including, sometimes, its writers, Firth is actually a lot better than he needs to be and makes what can at times seem a ridiculous series, into something that grips you even as you're slightly mocking it.

Ros's death gave the team a focus for revenge as they uncovered yet another convoluted Al Qaeda plot: this time, a Guy Fawkes tribute aimed at blowing up the Houses of Parliament. But, having become as boringly predictable opponents for the Spooks as the Borg became in later series of Star Trek, they weren't just Al Qaeda, they were Somali pirates as well: two baddies for the price of one!

It made for an exciting sequence as dashing hero Lucas North (Richard Armitage, the current Spooks action man with about as much inner depth as the toy) fought them aboard a ship with only the aid of a prostitute.

But the implausibly-cast Sophia Myles was not just any old prostitute, she was an undercover mercenary who turned out to know Harry of old and fancied becoming the latest recruit to his stable of short-lived spies – start taking bets on her eventual means of demise now. I'm going for death by exploding horse while saving the Queen at Ascot from Al Qaeda terrorists who are also animal rights activists.

Spooks, BBC One, review -  Catherine Gee reviews the return of Spooks, BBC One's all-action spy drama starring Richard Armitage and Sophia Myles.

Published: 6:40PM BST 20 Sep 2010

It was business as usual in the world of MI5. While we sat on our sofas, nursing cups of tea, anti-terrorism boss Harry Pearce (Peter Firth) was making a marriage proposal, murdering a politician, handing in his resignation and suffering from an existential crisis – all before the opening credits.

His weary “when will it stop?” mutterings were prompted by the swift tying up of last season’s cliff-hanger – as we saw frosty Agent Ros Myers’s (Hermione Norris) death-by-explosion at the hands of the mysterious “Nightingale” terrorists. The opening scene of the ninth series of Spooks (BBC One) was Myers’s sparsely attended funeral; yet another favourite character cast aside by the long-running drama’s ruthless writers.

Of course, this being Spooks, the remaining agents were given little time to grieve as Lucas North (Richard Armitage) was dispatched on a mission to board a ship in Tangier and assassinate an al-Qaeda terrorist.

As the plot twisted its way round a potential attack on Southampton, we were introduced to this season’s slew of new, and remarkably good-looking characters. Just as Rupert Penry-Jones was almost instantly replaced by the gruffer, less-refined North, Hermione Norris’s refreshingly stern Ros Myers has been replaced by the busty, smouldering Sophia Myles as Beth Bailey – a former independent contractor hankering for a job at MI5.

Like North, her cocky, self-assured demeanour screamed “mole” and we were merrily invited to distrust her from the start. Weary Harry Pearce, however, is clearly passed being suspicious of pretty ladies and handed her a contract without question – once he’d inevitably changed his mind about resigning, of course.

We were also introduced to new recruit Dimitri (Max Brown) who proved himself handy with the controls of a ship, fighting with his bare hands and doing that actorly thing of emoting frustration by tensing his jaw. The new Home Secretary (the last one exploded with Ros Myers) is now Simon Russell Beale and, in a welcoming development, old-timer Agent Ruth Evershed (Nicola Walker), who made a reappearance last series, seems to be permanently back “on the grid”.

Then, in the dying minutes we were introduced to Iain Glen as a mysterious stroke victim who dramatically provided the latest character twist by telling us that Lucas North (just as we were finally beginning to trust him) is not who we think.

It’s all fairly daft (well, as far as we know – MI5 may actually be dealing with these kinds of preposterous events every day), but happily Spooks remains as tight, gripping and exceptionally watchable as it was in series one.

Here's Bristol Palin's 1st wk on DwtS.  She's a 19yr-old single mom.  Her mother's political opponents tried to make it seem that particular situation only happens to people whose parents should never hold political office.  Yeah, right! Fact is it almost only happens to the more circumspect young women...the others plan ahead..are well prepared to see that it does not.

Excerpt Ep 1: Uploaded to YouTube by BCCMEE

Re'CAP' of David Stephenson Interview

                                                          Dapper Sherlock North
Received the entire interview from a friend - YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE out there--THANK YOU SWEETIE;)

Please keep in mind this recap is from notes taken during a long interview.  American ears are not quite used to the breakneck speed of the chatter, and then add the slight difficulty with differences in pronunciation, etc - the following are simply my impressions.  (Tangent: hubby has watched RH 2&3, Spooks 7&8 and Strike Back with me.  For the first ep of each new series, he never fails to comment "whew! they talk fast, don't they" hehe:) Usually only takes one episode though for our inner ear to speed up.  There's a wonderful interview w/Michael Caine(love him:) on youtube, where he explains the secret to an American accent.  He says 'to the effect' - think of the British speaking style as all erect soldiers, standing at attention...then imagine them starting to slowly lean back...gradually becoming more laidback...he then slid from a British accent into Texan with ease.  All his youtube interviews are solid gold.)

--They spoke first in general about the Spooks9, ep 1 plot.  Won't repeat those more specific remarks because many would probably rather be surprised.

--RA said the writers have used a new device for 9 in that they sometimes replay the story by looking at another character's point of view.

--as a Spooks actor, you must let yourself be taken by the current because you receive scripts in pieces.

--S9 is about trust & deception...Lucas is happy to bring someone into MI5 who will go out on a limb.

--Things slowly start to unravel for LN.  The love of his life has a strong pull on him..she pulls him back.

--The Albany theme runs throughout the new series.  LN chases the Albany file all the way through.."maybe I've already said too much."

--"If there is one, we're screwed." (referring to Albany...whatever that is)

--Spooks writers are always looking for the ticking bomb.  This time the ticking bomb involves the lives of the team.

--I don't want a violent death. (then they chatted about the possibility of characters returning to the show) Richard said he'd love to come back terribly burned and scarred with a tiny little voice.

(talk about a nightmare scenario:)

--Strike Back: he said the first series was quite experimental.  In SB2 they want to branch out - possibly get American actors involved.  Porter is a loose canon type of character who can be taken anywhere.

Interviewer asked RA if he would like to direct.  Answered that he bought a book on film directing...he does enjoy studying the craft.  Would find it difficult to direct a soap, but that's the type of learning ground that makes directors.  Said he'd enjoy directing an ep of Spooks, but that it might be rubbish because it would probably just be closeups of him for an hour.

(Well, what's wrong with that?..sounds like a brilliant idea, doesn't it ;)

--Talked about the pressure of joining a long running series.  He said he felt if ratings fell he'd think to himself "Oh Jesus, what have I done!"

(didn't realize RA was such a prayerful man:)

At some point the former hit US series "24" was mentioned and Richard agreed when the interviewer asked if Lucas North could be called the Brit Jack Bauer.

Their comments reminded me of something posted on this blog many months ago, when the final season of the dear departed "24" began..

>In a taxi with... Spooks star Richard Armitage

By Stuart Husband

Last updated at 8:01 PM on 18th September 2010

We’re trawling the backstreets of Soho, looking for a suitably clandestine setting in which to shoot Richard Armitage. ‘Will this do?’ asks our cabbie, Ken from Loughton, as we pull into a particularly nondescript cul-de-sac. ‘Perfect,’ beams Richard, unfurling his six-foot-two frame from the back seat and adopting a slew of saturnine poses for the photographer. He raises a wry eyebrow as she snaps away. ‘Furtive enough for you?’

If Richard, 39, is doing his best to deflect the stares of passers-by, it’s because he’s about to embark on series nine of Spooks, the ‘MI5, not 9 to 5’ spy thrill-fest that’s become a runaway BBC hit. He tells us his third season as Lucas North, an enigmatic officer once imprisoned in Russia, is all about ‘deception’ – which is like saying that Jamie Oliver’s new series is all about food. ‘No, but there’s lots of internal conflict this time round,’ protests Richard. ‘Ghosts from the past start catching up with Lucas, and it shakes the entire team to its foundations.’

The jitters aren’t confined to whether the team can yet again save London from death plots and dirty bombs by running round picturesque plazas and muttering into their shirt cuffs; it’s become Spooks standard policy to kill off characters without a backward glance, as numerous fallen alumni of the show – Rupert Penry-Jones, Miranda Raison, Lisa Faulkner – can attest. Do cast members receive the new scripts with trepidation? ‘That’s the thing that’s kept the show alive,’ grins Richard. ‘No matter how embedded a personality is, they can go, just like that. It keeps you on your toes.’

‘I try to look rough and knackered on Spooks, but they’re always coming in and fluffing up my hair and hiding my wrinkles. I’m ready for my Elephant Man phase’

Richard reckons there are parallels between spying and acting. ‘In both, the line between real and unreal is very blurry,’ he says. ‘Spies are never quite on solid ground. In Spooks, we’re always off-balance, because the scripts change all the time. I’ve thrown them across my trailer in frustration at times.’ He’s never (knowingly) met a real spook. ‘But I imagine there’s a lot more desk-work and data input than we ever do,’ he grins. ‘Plus I know entry-level MI5 salaries are pretty low, so you’d never be able to run around in Prada and Belstaff like we do.’

If Richard sometimes displays a slight diffidence when discussing his job, that’s because he retains what he terms ‘a certain ambivalence’ about acting, thanks to an upbringing in no-nonsense Leicestershire; his father was an engineer and his mother was a school secretary (‘there were no thesps in our family’). Despite running away from home at 17 to join a physical theatre group and get his Equity card, he still gives the impression of someone as much bemused as enthused by his trade.

Richard was first catapulted into the limelight six years ago, with the
bodice-ripping role of the sideburned John Thornton in the BBC adaptation of North and South. Message boards crashed, D’Arcy-esque pinnacles of hysteria were reached, and an unofficial fan club – the Armitage Army – was born. ‘I was fascinated for a while,’ he says sheepishly. ‘I thought, what on earth are they all talking about? I’d managed to work for years under the radar. Then after North and South, I started really analysing what I was doing, thinking I shouldn’t play certain types of characters because my “fan base” wouldn’t like it.’

He stares out of the cab window. ‘I’m a hopeless people-pleaser in life, so I had to divorce that from my work. Now I’ve gone the other way. I want to play ugly, damaged people. I try to look rough and knackered on Spooks, but they’re always coming in and fluffing up my hair and hiding my wrinkles.’ He arches an eyebrow. ‘I’m ready for my Elephant Man phase now.’

That may be, but the remnants of the Armitage Army may be heartened to learn that not only is he still single, but there are also vague plans for him to tread the boards in something resembling doublet and hose next year.

As we drop him on a crowded Soho thoroughfare, Richard does his best to blend in as only an above-averagely tall, handsome, small-screen sex god can. <

>Actor Richard Armitage as Lucas North, Spooks

This is my second interview with actor Richard Armitage this year. I’m not his agent, nor to my knowledge are we related. In the trade, we say “He’s a great chat”, which indeed he is. Many actors struggle to articulate well about their characters. This is not the case with Richard Armitage: he seems to know everything about Spooks spy Lucas North, almost as if he’d created him himself. And as you will hear, the scriptwriters don’t really give him much to go on. Not only is a full script rarely delivered before the shooting of each episode but as an actor he had no idea whether Lucas would survive the 9th series. There’s a great segment where he talks about how he would like to exit the series. Let’s just hope it gets recommissioned.

We did the interview in the offices of Premier PR in the heart of London’s Soho first thing one morning in the early summer. You can hear the buzz of the market starting up outside.

p.s.  Today Harry started to follow me....should I be concerned?  Is the pond protection enough once THE master senior spook gets your scent? hehe ;)

Is the cap camouflage in hopes he won't be slowed down by fans while dashing from studio to studio?  Nice to see him surrounded by adoring teens....look at the size of those eyes (theirs' - not his this time)...hahaha...and a dropped jaw.  If not teens, they should be highly complimented.

New Photos + SATURDAY Interview(posted on youtube by BCCMEE) + Friday: Vids from Chef Tryout:) on Lorraine: Uploaded to youtube by HeathDances

Sincere THX to Musa for the tip:
Believe this one was taped months ago.  That's the reason RA says he isn't sure if Lucas survives for Spooks10.  By now, of course that probably is no longer the case.  Remember the still shot that was released immediately after the interview...

SATURDAY: UK time 6:15pm, BBC Radio4 interview  at:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00ts5dw
Paragraph at that website says RA will discuss Lucas's tattoos.  This time it's a male interviewer - Clive James - so, Mr A. won't have another opportunity to use what he today referred to as his tattoo chat-up line - when asked if they're real by the lovely hostess, Richard said "come over and find out." WooHoo!

[SAT: also see at link below LN included in SKY's 20 fav spooks list]

Video Part II (see below): Watch master chef RA:) slicing veggies w/a pro's chopping flair..licking his fingers, mmm;)  eating  what must've been a super hot chili...resulting in his mouth getting even hotter than the rest of him.  Very tasty dish indeed....the recipe as well. haha;) Here's the link...

Interview afterthought:   Must listen to part 1 again to confirm whether or not Richard replied "why don't you come over and find out?" when the woman replacing Lorraine asked him if Lucas's tattoos are real.  Did he actually say it or was that my vivid imagination putting those words in his mouth?  Could easily have been the latter.

2nd item:  Where's the stubble?...channeling cookie monster --  ME WANT STUBBLE!  hehe....seriously, it would be cruel of the man to permanently take it away from us, wouldn't it?  Didn't John Porter have stubblelicious?....going to find some evidence...
Oh yeah...that's more like it.  Not sure if it's Porter or North directly above but, whichever,  it's divine.  Most men love to go unshaven for weeks at a time....is it too much to ask? ;) ....don't think so.  Businessman hubby makes it a point to grow out his whiskers every chance possible...especially on extended vacas.  Makes him feel 'free,,,free at last!'.  No suits or religious-like morning shaves.  Perhaps it works in reverse??...an actor who feels required to grow heavy stubble when shooting a role for mos at a time might be relieved to shave more often during project breaks.  hmmm...different stubble for different folks.  Suppose that's possible.  The topic was most definitely worth an entire paragraph, wasn't it? teehee

Part II - Chef RA...

Followed a tweet link that looked as though it might be a new SKY interview - turned out it's a recycle from last wk.  However, found the following..

Top Twenty Spies

As Spooks hits screens for a ninth series, we thought it was about time to take a look at the best espionage agents on the box.

Take a look at our favourite TV spies of all time.

p.s. It’s a photo list of SKY’s estimation of the 20 best spooks/spies, with luscious Lucas North as pic #1.(replaced it here w/one more tantalizing) Two other recent Bourne-type favs of mine are included on the list as well.
